The number one purpose of having a resume is to attract potential employers. Besides, this is the number one requirement in applying for a job. Whether you are a fresh college graduate entering the job market or a veteran in that particular technical field deciding to switch companies, resumes are the gateways for employment. They are scrutinized by recruiters during the first round of interviews. Therefore, a resume must be effective. Call it as branding oneself.
Of course, the content of the resume is your educational and employment backgrounds. But a good resume should do more than just that – it must sell yourself to the recruiter. In other words, it must tell the recruiter that you are a definite asset to the company once you’re hired.
To do that, write a resume from an employer’s point of view. Think of it this way – if you were the recruiter, were you convinced by your own resume to hire yourself?
Details must be given in the resume. These must all be factual because recruiters would later do a reference check on you. Some of the details are educational background, employment background and political affiliation. Contact information must also be provided in the resume so that recruiters can be able to contact you for the second round of interview.
In white-collar jobs, the resume must be a glimpse of your writing skills.
