Dear Outdated Recruitment Process,
I can’t remember a time in my life when you weren’t around, and it’s hard to imagine a future without you. Times are changing, though, and I need to move on to something new.
You have helped me find great employees, people who have thrived in this organization and are staying for the long term. But you’ve also caused problems. You’re slow, costly, and often send me down the wrong path, causing me to hire the wrong person.
You’ve put people in front of me you knew would be unqualified, but their resume ended up in the “Yes” pile anyway. You’ve kept me up all night, and not for good reasons. You’ve forced me to spend hours reading the same accomplishments over and over, knowing these facts won’t help that person in the job position I’m recruiting.
Don’t get me wrong, I am fond of you. You introduced me to the world of recruitment and taught me some valuable lessons along the way. Because of you, I can connect with people I’m interested in learning more about. I’ve gained so much knowledge and am able to get an accurate impression of the candidates I’m speaking with because of you.
But I spend too much time with you and that’s a problem. We take weeks, sometimes months, to fill one job position. That was OK when I had no other choice, but software developers have created something new and, I’m sorry to say this, it works better for me than you ever have. It lets me get through recruitment tasks quickly, so I can focus on other, more important things. It also saves me money and provides me with more high quality candidates than you ever have.
It’s called video interviewing, and we’re a much better match than you and I ever were.
I want to say I enjoy spending time with you, that I should keep up this relationship. But I know that’s not true, and you know it, too. I’m leaving you for recruitment software. I hope you don’t become obsolete, but I know in my heart that’s already happening.
