Yes and check more than 5!!! Here is how:
Did you know that the interview process is one of the hardest ways to actually tell if someone is a good fit for your organization, yet so many people focus on it and do not stray from it.
I was listening to a specialist who had been recruiting for 20 years plus and he said after a while you realize that the interview process is just not really that good at indicating who is a good potential employee. Lots of people can fake a good interview.
But do you know something people can’t fake? Past work experiences!!
So reference checking is in some cases a better determining factor than the actual interview. But after talking to lots of organizations I realize than many don’t do it and if they do they only check 1-2 at most 3 if they have time.
Wouldn’t you rather check 6-7 but how would anyone even have time to do that for 4-5 finalists. You would have to call 35 people… If you have tried reaching references you know that those 35 calls would really be over 100+ with all the phone tag involved.
Now imagine if you did have 6-7 references for each applicant and you had that information BEFORE you interview them.
So when those finalists sit down with you can probe and ask them questions about everything the references told you.
Another reason you would want to get 5+ references because its hard to find 5 people who will all say everything you want them too.
The beauty of our system is that we check references for you at any time during the process, we check as many as you want and our clients are now using it as a screening process.
This allows them not only to probe during the interview process but also to probe the references if they want a little more details.
So instead of calling the 100+ you might just need to call 1-2 or even none.
This is the idea when using an automated reference checking system and of course, I recommend VidReferencing powered by VidCruiter.
