Management Skill Job Interview Questions
A manager needs to have exceptional leadership skills because he or she leads a company unit or division and he or she is responsible for all the tasks assigned to that division. Therefore, there are certain specific questions that need to be asked when conducting job interviews for this type of position.
The following are suggested questions that should be included when interviewing applicants applying for a managerial position. These are all employee screening questions to assess the applicant’s management and supervisory skills. Feel free to use any of these questions.
-How long have you worked as a manager or a supervisor in the past? It is preferable that a manager has at least supervisory experience before being accepted for the job.
-How many workers have you managed in other companies? The number of people that he or she has managed in the past can be an indicator to as if he or she has handled large groups of subordinates and if he or she is ready to do so.
-Describe the exact duties you have had as a supervisor with past employments.
-What do you like about being a manager?
-How do you feel working in a fast paced environment? Can you give me an example of a time where you worked in a fast paced environment and you had to overcome an obstacle to finish a specific task?
-In your previous work, what were the designations of your subordinates? How hands-on were you?
-Have you ever fired a subordinate? What was the circumstance forcing you to fire him or her?
-Have you ever welcomed a new hire from the recruiter? Why did you choose him or her from the vetted list?
-What do you do when you’re having trouble with a subordinate?
-How much training did you accomplish in the last two years of your most prior position?
-How did you expose bad news to your subordinate?
-What makes a good supervisor?
-How many subordinates have directly reported to you? Can you describe their job functions in detail?
-What was the employee turnover rate in your division when you were still a supervisor?
-What do you think was the reason for this particular rate?
-Did you ever institute programs to build morale among your subordinates?
-How do you plan your personal day so as to motivate the morale of your subordinates?
Why do think there is a need for specific skills interview question for applicants wanting to fulfill a managerial level vacancy? The reason is because the specific questions are fit to underline the level of leadership skills one may have and on top of that, give you valuable insight on the applicant’s prior experience and abilities.
