Video interviews and why they are great for you
Video interviews are great for both organizations and job seekers. It provides a platform that makes hiring cheaper and in many ways easier. Finally recruiting people on the other side of the world is possible and can be done like how it is done with local sourcing. Thanks to the internet and the innovation of existing communication channels inside its virtual realm people from separate locations can interact in real time with higher quality of audio-visual feeds. But what is in it for you as a job applicant? Video interviews are not as hurried and nerve racking as real interviews. In asynchronous interviews you can have a longer time to prepare for your answers. You can research and refine your responses until you are satisfied with it. Video interviews are also more relaxed knowing that you have more freedom is scheduling it with recruiters. Because online interviews sit on top of online hiring, recruiters can accommodate more people in their list of interviewees without finding it hard to schedule applicants to their ideal time slots.
You control your interview environment
Unlike conventional interviews where you are ushered in a completely new environment that can make even the most prepared applicant nervous, video interviews on the other hand allows you to stay at home and set up the interview ambiance that you want and need to get through the session smoothly. It is up to you to arrange your virtual interview room so that you can be more relaxed and feel more at home (technically, you are home!). This can add confidence and this will improve the way you answer questions and interact with the interviewer. You have no excuse not to ace it or at least do better compared to being called into an organization’s recruitment office.
You can aim for perfection
Video interviewing can also give you enough space to maximize your response time. This advantage is highlighted in asynchronous interviews where you are practically left alone to think about the correct answer and even give you the ability to edit your answers until you are satisfied with it before you submit the said response. You have now ample time to choose the right words and language, refine your tone, and improve your voice inflection and facial expression to maximize its impact for the session’s assessment. This gives you a lot of opportunities to improve and strive for perfection. Remember that interviews are a good way to show recruiters what you got and the contributions you can provide for their organization.
When you are good and ready
Often times what makes interviews associated with nervousness is its sudden nature. Recruiters can call you anytime and tell you to be at their office in a specific date and time. Many applicants do not have enough choice or courage to exercise their choice when it comes to the scheduling of their interview. This can easily throw even the most seasoned professional off balance and make him or her ill prepared for the appointment. With video interviews this blunder is removed especially in the case of asynchronous interviews. Applicants are given access to the interview platform and it will be their choice when to go through with the session.
