We all know that testimonials are an important business strategy for showing the quality of a company or product to the world at large. That’s a given. But in today’s web driven market, written testimonials are truly a dime a dozen, and can do little to develop business trust.
When a potential customer is scanning through the many reviews and written testimonials available to the average consumer, they can sometimes find themselves questioning who to believe. Some testimonials are written with great tact and command of the English language, some seem like bizarre rants written by a 12-year-old. This can lead the customer to not believe anything, let alone to aid you in recruiting and staffing, and in the long run, furthering your business.
This is where video testimonials come in.
Our digital age has inhibited many of the deeper facets of communication and connection that made for amazing business strategy in years gone by. One major factor in developing business trust was the handshake and smile. Eye contact meant the world to the potential client or customer, but on the world wide web, this is all but lost.
In reality, people truly need to see and really hear from people to develop a real sense of trust for a company. Trust simply can’t be developed well without hearing a sensible and friendly voice or seeing someone speak about their experiences.
Video testimonials provide this need to a potential client or customer. People can pick up on a lie, but to have countless testimonials, telling of the ways they were treated well can really boost an individual’s confidence in a business.
The average Joe can pick up on a fib. A well written review may go so far, but to have the ability for the customer to sit and observe someone who has been where they’re considering going, can set a person at ease.
You see, people need something to relate to. They don’t want to be condescended to. They don’t want to be “sold” something or talked into a purchase or a service. What most people truly crave is a camaraderie; to know that others have been where they’re at, and have lived to tell the tale.
Video testimonials can be a huge step ahead of simple text testimonials in the area of credibility as well. Anyone can write a fake review. Words can be written and forged, then posted on the web in a moment. A believable video testimonial, however, is far tougher to fake.
When dealing with the areas of recruiting and staffing, talent management and building business trust, people are going to want to see a face before they simply hand their lives and livelihoods over to a company. People want to actually see as much as they can before they take the dive into trust.
All of this is merely touching the surface of the issue, and we’ve hardly explored the ways that video testimonials can enhance the look and feel of a website as well. It’s definitely an addition worth considering at length.
